Under the helmet in 10 Questions

  1. What are your goals for the upcoming race season?

My obvious goal is to get the Sunburst Environmental Car our first 410 win, but I really want to run in the top five every week and give ourselves an opportunity or at least be in contention to win every week

      2) What is your favorite track to race at? And why?

Any track I get the chance to race at is my favorite because I feel so fortunate for the  opportunity to race sprint cars, but I’m probably most comfortable at  Sharon Speedway

      3) What has been your favorite racing memory?

My daughter Parker winning the bike races at Mercer Raceway Park

      4) If you could race something other than a sprint car what would it be?

NHRA motorcycles, I have always loved motorcycles I got my first dirt bike for my fifth birthday and then as soon as I turned 18 I bought a crotch rocket and just have been always interested in and wanted to try the drag bikes

      5) Do you have any pre-race superstitions?

None, but I usually end up in the bathroom before every race

      6) If you aren’t racing on a Friday or Saturday night, what are you doing?

I would be spending time with my family or trying to find a little time to play some golf

      7) If You had a million dollars what would you buy? And don’t say buy the Cleveland Cavaliers

A gymnastics gym for my daughter

      8) Who has been your biggest influence in racing?

Dale Blaney and George Fisher. Dale because he is from the same town as me and I consider a close friend and one of the best sprint car drivers ever. George because he was fun to be around obviously a hall of fame crew chief and he always would answer any question I had no matter how dumb it was

      9) What would you say if your daughter were to say she wanted to start racing?

I would tell her she needs to at least be able to drive the golf cart straight first

     10) Would you rather fight 100 duck sized horses or 1 horse sized duck?

One horse sized duck, it wouldn’t be much of a fight, because I am secretly a ninja

idiot

Who is Jim Morris

Jim Morris III got his start in racing in the late 80’s when his dad began drag racing. Below is the first drag car that they built. During this time at the drag strip, Jim would drag race his dirt bike at Sunset Drag Strip.

Jim would spend a lot of time at the drag races with his family. His dad’s dragster would change several times through the years. He would end up naming the car “Snake Eyes” and have some success at Quaker City Motorsports Park.  Tribute to Quaker City

Jim would get his first taste of sprint car racing in the summer of 1997 when he started dating his now wife Shaunah. He would start spending more time at the dirt tracks and less time at drag strips.  He worked on several sprint car teams and never thought about getting behind the wheel. However, in 2006 he was given the chance to run a couple of races in the Green Flag Sprint division at Sharon Speedway. That was enough to have him hooked. Jim would compete in the Green Flag later named Limited Sprint car division.   In 2011 Sharon Speedway & Mercer Raceway Park would create a division that would combine the Limited Sprint division with 305 sprint cars and call them the Outlaw Sprint Warriors. Races would be held at Sharon Speedway on several Friday nights and Saturdays, at Mercer Raceway Park. Sadly in 2011 Sharon would drop the division due to low car counts and low interest in Friday night racing. Jim would still continue to compete on Saturdays at Mercer Raceway Park. In 2012 Jim would win the #1 Cochran Cavalcade Points Championship in the 305/Limited Sprint Division.  He would finish 2nd in the Mercer Raceway Park track points standings two years in a row before finally capturing his 1st track championship in 2014. Looking for a new challenge in 2015 and with some encouragement from the partnership formed in 2014 with the Stafford Family together, they would move into the 410 Sprint Car ranks. 2018 will mark the 4th season racing in the 410 division.

Back to the question who is Jim Morris? The name might sound familiar, it could be because Jim Morris was a pitcher that the movie The Rookie, maybe a famous Body Builder, or even the Singer. Now Jim might tell you he has the same physique as the bodybuilder, that he is the songbird of his generation, or even can throw a major league fastball. What it all comes back to is, Jim Morris is a part-time racer, but a full-time family man. In 2005 he married Shaunah and they have one child, Parker. Shaunah and Parker are always at whatever track Jim happens to be racing at.

Throw Back Thursday

A look back at the different looks of the 16 all the way to changing the number to 4N and moving up in the 410 division. 2 different numbers but both have a lot of meaning behind them. The 16 was to pay tribute to Jim’s wife Shaunah’s family that owned a 410 sprint car in the 90’s. Changing to a 4N is a way to remember how partnering with Sunburst Environmental came to be. The 4N is to remember we race 4 Nicole Stafford. The purple and the zebras all represent the disease she suffered from, Pulmonary Hypertension. She was a Warrior that not only raised awareness for PH but she did so many things to raise money to help try and find a cure.

Now with a different color scheme, the Sunburst Environmental Racing 410 still has the 4N to show why we race.
